Choosing Your Wedding Photographer

Bride and Groom Confetti Kiss in The Cotswolds

Congratulations, you’re engaged! After securing your date and beautiful venue, the next step is usually choosing your wedding photographer. Photographers get booked up quite early in advance, and most of us only take a limited number of weddings each year, so it’s always advisable to start looking for one asap! But how do you decide who is right when there is so many choose from? Well, let me help you with four things to consider:

This covers two things. Firstly, editing style, but secondly and probably more importantly, the style of photography. By this I mean the way the photographer works. For example, are they a candid, natural type photographer, or do they prefer to pose people? Think about what you want your photographs to say. Do you want them to be perfectly posed, or do you want them to capture natural moments that invoke a feeling? The latter is my style, for example. There is no right or wrong, it will come down to personal preference! In terms of editing style, you will probably have heard of the most common two (light & airy or dark & moody). However there are actually many more. My style is very natural, clean and crisp, for example. Again, this will be down to personal preference. My advice would be to create a Pinterest board and start pinning the photographs you like. You will notice a trend!

The Photographer

Once you have an idea of what you are looking for, you can start to narrow it down. The next step will be to look into who the photographer is. They will be working very closely with you before and on the day, so it is important to find someone that you like, trust, and get on with! Have a look at their bio, testimonials, and on their Instagram account. Stories and story highlights are the best place for getting to know someone (if they are present on there). I try to post on stories quite frequently so you can get an idea of who I am and my personality. If they are your type of person, then great, you can tick that box and move onto the next step!

This can differ quite a lot between photographers which is why I advise to check this one out once you have found one or two photographers you like. You may have to get in touch to request full pricing (I have mine displayed on my website, but it is more detailed in the brochure). If you are comparing more than one photographers pricing, be sure to check what is included. Remember that investing in your wedding photography is super important, as it is the one thing that will last with you forever after your day.

The last thing to do if you are happy with all of the above, is to get in touch and check your date is available! Photographers get booked up quite far in advance, as they are usually the second supplier to book after the venue is sorted. Most of us tend to take a limited number of weddings each month too, so please don’t leave it too late to get in touch! I hate having to say no to people!

And that’s it! I hope you found this helpful. I know how hard it can be finding a photographer, I have been there! If you would like to enquire about my availability or ask for a brochure, do feel free to drop me a message, I would LOVE to hear from you!
