What is Lifestyle Photography?

Up until the past year, I have solely been a lifestyle newborn and family photographer. I also photographed a few weddings. My in-home lifestyle newborn sessions were my most popular type of booking though, as they offered a natural alternative to studio based baby sessions. I loved the lifestyle aspect of shooting, I got to photograph people in their homes in the most authentic way, which I also like to call ‘storytelling’. That’s the favourite part about photography for me, getting to tell a story through my work. And this is essentially what lifestyle photography is. It’s capturing real moments. Whether that’s a business owner making their own art, a dog interacting with their owner, or people in the street going about their day to day lives. Nothing is staged or forced. Yes, in a brand shoot there will be creative direction, but it’s subtle. I’m still there to capture your brand in the most authentic way.
In the past year, my photography work has naturally transitioned into more lifestyle branding & documentary sessions.

To really connect with your clients or audience, your images should give them something to connect to. They should stir a feeling, or leave them asking questions. Lifestyle photography does just this. For example, if you are a service based business, your imagery should show your potential clients how they will feel when utilising your services, or show the friendly face(s) that will be working with them.
