I thought I would write a little post about why I chose to go down the route of lifestyle photography. I don’t have any children of my own, so family and newborn photography wasn’t something I naturally transitioned into. However, i’ve always been so much more drawn to photographing candid portraits of people. There’s something so powerful about being able to capture a real moment in a photograph. To be able to remember a moment is one thing, but to look at a photograph of that moment enables you to relive it. To remember how you felt, how the air smelt, and perhaps even what followed after the moment.
There are little chapters of our everyday that make up our entire lives. But how many of those moments do we truly remember? We tend to only have vivid memories of bigger life events, such as weddings and holidays. But it’s those beautiful everyday moments that make your life what it is today. It could be a dog walk, baking cookies at home with your littles, or snuggling up on the sofa with your new baby. It’s these moments that matter the most, but that we tend to quickly forget. This is why I am passionate about lifestyle photography, and it’s ability to document those moments.
When I look back at candid family photos from my own childhood, I feel like I can remember the moment. Even though without that photograph I may have never have thought about it. So whether I can honestly remember it, or whether it’s seeing the photograph that’s making me believe I can, either way, it’s a magical feeling. To document the story of a family knowing they will treasure it in years to come, and for the little’s to grow up and remember those moments from their childhood, fills me with so much joy!
Lifestyle photography certainly doesn’t end with families, though. Which is why I will be providing a new storytelling service (or two!) this year, which I cannot wait to share with you. More details on that very soon!
